Making Process (Actual Factory Method – Realistic & Accurate)

1. Block Selection

• Select Travertine block or slab with stable structure.

• Avoid weak spots, loose pores, cracks, and dark filler patches.

2. Rough Cutting

• Cut the raw block into smaller cube/cylinder pieces using:

  • Bridge saw

  • Block cutter

• Dimensions are kept slightly oversized for shaping.

3. Turning/Shaping

Two possible methods depending on factory capability:

A. Stone Lathe (Preferred for Pot Design)

• Mount the block on a stone lathe machine.

• Rotate the stone and use diamond chisels to shape the pot curvature.

• Create smooth round walls and neck.

B. Hand-Carving + Angle Grinder (Low-tech Method)

• For factories without lathe:

  • Shape manually using grinders

  • Carve curvature in layers

  • Smooth edges by hand

4. Hollowing the Inside

• Use diamond core drills OR lathe boring tools.

• Hollow to required depth while keeping walls thick for strength.

• Ensure symmetry and balance.

5. Surface Finishing

• Sand with multiple grit levels: 80 → 150 → 320 → 600.

• Achieve smooth honed or brushed surface depending on order.

6. Outer Edge Refinement

• Smooth the rim

• Match curve symmetry

• Remove sharp edges

7. Sealing (Optional)

• Apply stone sealer or epoxy interior coating if vase must hold water.

• Dry for 24 hours.

8. Final QC

• Check:

  • Weight

  • Wall thickness

  • Stability

  • Vein matching

  • No cracks or ring fractures

  • Uniform finish

9. Packaging

• Wrap in EPE foam, bubble, kraft box.

• Double-box for export.
